A few weeks ago, we had asked the very knowledgeable seller at the wine co-operative in Les Arcs what her favorite restaurant in the area was and she quickly named said, “Pennafort”  after faithfully recommending the co-op’s restaurant upstairs.

On April 26, 2007 Bob, Peggy, Linda and I drove out to Les Arcs-sur-Argens for lunch at Le Relais des Moines.

(March 13, 2008) To drive one hour from Nice for lunch to a restaurant that was just written up in Nice-Matin requires a great leap of faith.

However, David and Frédérique are always up for something new and different, so the four of us met there not knowing what to expect except what we had read.

Les Roches – Aiguebelle

September 21 and 22, 2006, we stayed at Les Roches, a luxury hotel at the border of Aiguebelle and St. Clair east of Le Lavandou on the coast between St. Tropez and Toulon.   We had reserved a deluxe room, which was okay, but not really what I expected at the price, particularly since the hotel had recently been closed for a year for renovation.  It had a balcony with a table and two chairs overlooking the sea and the Ile du Levant in the distance. 

Le Sud – Aiguebelle

On September 21, 2006, we dined at Le Sud, in the little beach resort of Aiguebelle, east of Le Lavandou on the coast between St. Tropez and Toulon.   This was our fourth visit here and we had high hopes that it would be as excellent as it had been before. 

Le Girelier – St Tropez

Every two or three years we go to St. Tropez to see a special exhibition, and the fine permanent collection, at Le Musée de l’Annonciade.  We always go on to somewhere else for the evening, but we can be faced with the question of lunch in this tacky, tourist-overrun town. 

Bruno – Lorgues

About fifteen years ago we were somewhere in the Rhône Valley planning to return to Beaulieu-sur-Mer the next day.  I looked in the Michelin Red Guide and found Bruno’s restaurant, which had recently received a star.  So we went for lunch the next day and found it to be a great way to end a drive somewhere in France, as it is not too far from home for an after lunch drive.
