This lodge is Aman’s first in Bhutan, and is where the architect appears to have started his learning curve. The rooms are spacious and well-appointed but stark in design as is the whole cluster of concrete buildings which form the lodge. Read the rest of this entry »

The reason to visit Thekkady is the Periyar Game Reserve, but the game has long gone. We did see a few elephants as we were driving into the heart of the preserve to start our three-hour jungle walk, whose highlights were a woodpecker, a squirrel and masses of leeches. Read the rest of this entry »

Hotel l’Orient, Pondicherry
French until after even the British left India, this town still retains some of its Gallic influences. The hotel, recently restored from what appeared to be rubble, is a former colonial mansion and serves decent French food. Read the rest of this entry »
